Greetings,

I suspect this is a normal.dot issue. Since I have been using Word 2000, I've noticed that when I format a document, i.e. select text, make it bold, select bullets, italisize, whatever, it applies that style to the ENTIRE document, then I have to go back and select the part of the document I didn't want formatted, and undo it, etc. For instance, I typed a title and the rest of a document. I go back to the title, select it and make it bold and underline. Instead of just applying those styles to the title, it applies it to the entire document. I've blown away my normal and Word has given me a fresh one only to give me the same headaches. The same behavior happens at home so I know it's not the load of Word I have at work. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

As there are no other takers, a shot in the dark:
Perhaps the Automatic Update is checked for the style on which you base your other styles?
FWIW

Tools-Autocorrect, Autoformat as you type tab.

Remove the checkmarks from the top and bottom sections, leaving the middle alone.

ilses is probably right on the money too.
