I have a laptop with win XP Home (SP1) and Office 2000 recently installed. On opening Word and typing just a few characters, I get a "windows has caused a serious error" message . (I can' t remember the exact wording , but its the one which tries to send a report to Microsoft). I've tried doing a repair on office, re-installing office, and even installing Word Xp instead of 2000, but it still keeps doing it, so possibly its windows rather then word. However, if I logoff and logon as the other user on this pc, the problem doesn't occur. So something to do with profiles? I've tried replacing the normal.dot file, but no joy. Any other suggestion?

Sounds like a corrupted document template. Do a search for "normal.dot" in all system files and HDD's and delete all normal.dot files found (after you make copies for backups of course) Office will regenerate them on next run.
