Word 2000 2 docs at once??

How can I have 2 or more docs open, in one instance of Word (not the second doc in a 'spawned' second instance of Word)? <br>
Maybe MS just changed the location of the Minimize button, but I suspect they're trying to be more 'like a browser',--I've seen this curious behaviour adopted by Lotus Notes in R5--Lotus' stated philosophy is to make it more 'browser-like&quot;.<br>
I really need the way it was before--multiple 'child' windows in a single Parent window--has this functionality gone away?<br>
Can anyone help?

In Word and I believe FrontPage they now are setup such that there is a task bar icon for each document you have open - its still only opening one instance of the program, just more icons on the taskbar. I remember reading somewhere that M$ did this because &quot;many&quot; people complained about having to go to the Window Menu and choose a different document. They wanted just to be able to click on the task bar to get to the other document...<br>

Having said all of that, there is no way to turn this &quot;feature&quot; off in Word and I think Front Page, however you can turn it off in Excel and I think Power Point (I am absolutely positive you cannot turn it off in Word and can turn it off in Excel, the other two may be switched around... Basically there are two you can turn off and two you cannot turn off)<br>

I can't remember exactly where to turn it off.... I think it may be in Tools ¦ Options ¦ View then Show Windows in TaskBar. (Sorry my Excel is acting up right now so I cannot check it...)<br>

I noticed that many months ago and posted here. I was concerned that it was launching multiple instances of Word. Straight from Microsoft it is not.<br>

I have a macro that &quot;fixes&quot; this behavior. But it only works in Word. The feature, by the way, is called &quot;multiple document interface.&quot;<br>

Thanks, I'd like to look at the macro and see what it does. This move away from MDI is getting frustrating. Lotus is doing it with Notes, to mimick browsers, which are SDI. Everything is going 'All Internet, All the time', it seems, which in my opinion, brings usability standards down to a lower-common.
