When I try to print a page, the hp 940c signals an error and says "Pen Failure".

It then says one or both ink cartridges may not installed correctly. But the print cartridges are ok and properly installed.

This same type of failure happened before about two months ago. At that time I deleted the software and reinstalled it. I thought that had fixed it but not the same problem has come up again.

The software for this printer gets installed on the Classic version of my G4 Mac. It seems that when I first got the G4 I had to download a program to make the printer compatible with the G4. I may need this program but I don't know where to get it. I am beginning to think I may have to buy a new printer.

Would appreciate comments.

I found that the carridge light was on, indicating something wrong. I removed the cartridges, wiped the contacts and reinstalled them with a little extra force. The light went out.

In the meantime I had downloaded HP's new program for the Mac OS10.3 and installed it. It showed up on the Classic Mac version. I found the hp deskjet utility and printed a test page with color and various fonts.

However, when I tried to print a regular OS 10 document, the printer did not respond.

Does anybody know what I'm doing wrong? Thanks.
