Im running a PCI56RVP modem on my win2k machine, ive just upgraded from win98, however everytime i try to connect it tells me it cant open the COM port. And gives the error number 687. Any ideas why this happens?

Have you tried loading the W2K drivers for your modem? Better still, physically remove the modem from the machine and let it boot up without the modem. Now switch off, plug in modem, and let W2K find, and ask for the new modem driver.
