I just made my new PC and now when i turn it on, it goes through all the checks and then says that it stopped loading windows to protect it and at the bottom has something like:
***STOP: 000X000 000X000 000X000 ( or something quite similair to that anyway)

and i was told somewhere that that means its a problem with hardware but it says it could be a virus or something. Could it be a corrupt file and it says run CHKDSK /F or somethign but i dont know how cos it wont boot anything. PLS PLS PLS HELP ME!!!

hi:

what OS you are trying to install ? NT/2000/XP ??

second: is it possible for you to write down the stop error on a piece of paper so we can get some indication on what problem we are looking at roughly ?

alots thing could be wrong with the hardware with an error message like this:

memory
hard drive
processor
floppy drive
cd rom drive

also are you installing the OS to a brand new hard drive or is this an upgrade ?

sorry, I am using my old HD from before i upgraded it. Im running xp pro.

this is the error message:

A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your PC.

blah blah blah if restart and if it happens again follow these steps:
Chec for virus. remove any new hard drives or hard drive controllers. Check Hard drive and make sure it is properly configured and terminated. Run CHKDSK /F to check for hard drive corrpution and restart.

***STOP 0x0000007B (0xF894e640, 0xc0000034, 0x00000000 0x00000000)

im pretty sure its configred properly and if its not i have no idea whats wrong with it!! pls help

New PC? Does this mean you have done a clean install of XP in the new machine - or have you just put drive with XP installed on old machine into new machine?

You certainly know how to throw someone off the scent.
Same old, same old, seems like we've seen this question like 20 times this week.
Yes you need to clean install XP, as your old HD is configured for your old setup, lots has changed now and the configuration is quite differant and that why Windows is going belly up trying to load up.

try this if you are sure there is absolutely nothing wrong with your hardware (ie. if they are mostly new, have them exchanged with the vendor, just to be 100% sure, )

first you also want to make sure you backed up all the unrecoverable data (ie. word, excel files, email messages etcv)

seoncond, can you make a plain old DOS boot disk ? if not, there a good resource for you to make one in
boot up to it, type in the command:

A:> fdisk /mbr

that will destory any old master boot record

if you are using an old hard drive, I would also suggest you find out its manufacture has provide utility to erase it and fill it will zero's, that will get you started as you have a brand new hard drive

try to boot up to Windows xp CD after the above step see if that works for you

hope this helps

I just ran thru the same thing with Me. I've always done a deltree with windows and attrib -s -h -r in the c:\ root directory and been able to install without losing files...not this time. I still managed but if you have a backup, start with a clean hdd.

I got caught with a motherboard change and paparazi is dead on here.

BTW, I did get around it by deleting about any folder I had. I kept the documents I needed but after 10 hours of deltree etc., I wonder if it was worth it.

Yes, I do weekly backups, so just don't go there. I now do job by job writes to a CD-RW.
