This is on Version 8.5 BE on an NT server. Compaq Server, with 20/40 DLT drive.

When you look at the job status, it stats that it is loading media.... for 13 hours it will state this. I will not load the media. This will intermintantly on a couple of different servers.

Any clue????

What needs to be done?? What are items to look at>>

ALSO.... the only way to get out the media, is to reboot the server.... Is there a way around that???

Try looking at the properties of your backup job and making sure that the default device to use to backup is set to YOUR TAPE DRVIE, and not something like "Any available media".

It is set to goto Compaq 1 w/ the media set 2 that is setup.

Well, If you abort the job that is trying to access the tape device and then start and stop all of the BE services, That will release the tape drive.

Is your problem that your tape never loads when you put it in, or can actually put the tape in and say label your media, then when a job runs the tape drive never loads?

OK... what happens is that the media won't load (accourding to the software). You can hear the drive clicking as it is thrying to load it. Even if you cancel the job, you are unable to eject the tape. The only way I can get the tape out is to Shut off the server, let the drive reset it self and start it back up. Once the server is running again, I can eject the tape.

I am pretty sure it is a bad tape, but could it be the drive causing the tapes to go bad?? this is the second one within 2 weeks that it has happened to.

It could be the problem, the drive may be going bad. Do you have a service agreement? Or in some cases I have seen the lifters set incorrectly on the tape drive mechanism. But, if you have not removed the drive and nor has anyone else, chances are if it worked sometime ago, then they are set correctly. Do you possibly have a simular setup on another server that is working and swap the drives to see if it functions on the other server? Or if you have a service agreement then just have them come out. Also, Is this a SCSI device. Are your settings correct?
