Won't go into break mode..

I am working with VBA modules in MS Access 2000.
Every now and then, the application goes in to some kind of special mode, where I can't step through the code, and the code doesn't break on errors.
If I hit "F8", it acts as though I hit "F5".
If I close down the app and restart it, it's fine.
Does anyone know what's going on with this?
