Wondering if Exchange is best tool for Broadcast Email

My organization wants to start sending broadcast (NOT spam) email to its members. We are planning to switch from a Novell to a Microsoft environment in the near future including a switch from GroupWise to Exchange server.

Will Exchange work to do broadcast emails in the 3,000 - 7,000 email range?

Should I be looking at another technology... listserves, etc?

Any help you can provide would be great.

Exchange as far as I've used it is rather bad at that task. With distribution lists it only supports a maximum of 165 entries per list. We didn't even get that far. Personally, make a csv export and get sendmail to do it

But if anyone else has suceeded, I like to here how they went on. We use both Outlook 2k and XP.
