Has anyone used VMware workstation to cluster Exchange? I'm looking for a cluster solution, besides Microsofts, and wondering if it's a good solution. I've never used VMware, but don't mind learning it.
thanks.

You will still need to run a Clustering software on the VM's.

so I would still have to purchase a 6K license for the Microsoft Clustering service? I can't see what the advantage of that would be. ?

sure, if you have Enterprise edition - which is what I was trying to circumvent ($6K).

I'm looking for a cluster solution
VMWare is a "virtual machine" solution, not a cluster solution. You should see Legato Cluster, MS-Cluster, Veritas Cluster, etc....

vmware actually is a cluster solution, albeit virtual.
I'll look into the other vendors. Thanks for the tip.

No, it is not. It creates virtual machines, they could be clustered, but with the required cluster software (as MS-Cluster for example). VMware will provide with the 2 or more server (virtualized) in the same physical box (same server) but they are independent as 2 or mor independent boxes.

Cheers.
