wmv's play sporadically in slide.

Hiya.

I'm using Powerpoint XP on a Windows XP machine. I've made a presentation with slides containing wmv files. These wmv files were all produced in the exact same way. Some of them play fine and some of them, when prompted, go to a white box. They were all produced on the same machine. Some of them actually worked last week and do not work now. Also, these same wmv files work fine on another machine in Powerpoint XP. I can detect no difference in the wmv properties from file to file. The machine that I'm trying to do this on is a laptop - Dell600, 1.6 G, 500R, Video card - Mobility 9000. Updates on windows, powerpoint, WMP and updated hardware drivers have already been tried. Any ideas? Very time-critical problem. Thanks for any help.

Hi there,

I'm afraid I personally don't have an answer to the problem with your WMV files in PowerPoint. But I've had problems with importing files into PPT and lots of other programs - and often I've been able to solve them just by switching to another format. No good reason for it - but it just works. Maybe you could try converting your WMV file(s) to MPEG, or AVI, file(s), and importing them into PPT? I know there are converters out there on the Internet.

I've had the white box problem happen to me when the path length (where you have the video files saved) is over 128 characters long.

e.g. c:\my documents\presentations\username\thisyear\keepvideos\inthis\directory\ok\today
