WMP 10 or 11 not recognizing ver of windows 1

I am running xp pro ver 5.1 service pak 2. Trying to load windows media player and error message received
" This version of Windows Media Technologies is incompatible with this version of Windows. For more information, view the information at the Microsoft web site."

Now no verison of media player is working

any help would be welcome.. Thank you

It seems to be a problem with the Wmploc.dll
