All output files (log, txt and xls) are linked at the bottom of my current message.

I've been using WMI Diadnosis Utility to try to resolve some problems related to WMI. Theses problems happen on a Win2k server SP4, it's my current domain controller and exchange 2k server with latest sp. I'm running the WMI diag tool 2.0

There's less problems with WMI than when I first run the diagnostic tool. I have resolved somes issues, but I don't known what to do now.

At the end of the "txt" and "log" files I see the remaning errors :

12228 11:37:58 (0) ** # of Event Log events BEFORE WMIDiag execution since the last 20 day(s):
12229 11:37:58 (0) ** DCOM: ............................................................................................................. ERROR!
12230 11:37:58 (0) ** WINMGMT: .......................................................................................................... ERROR!
12231 11:37:58 (0) ** WMIADAPTER: ....................................................................................................... ERROR!
12232 11:37:58 (0) **
12233 11:37:58 (0) ** # of additional Event Log events AFTER WMIDiag execution:
12234 11:37:58 (0) ** DCOM: ............................................................................................................. ERROR!
12235 11:37:58 (0) ** WINMGMT: .......................................................................................................... ERROR!
12236 11:37:58 (0) ** WMIADAPTER: ....................................................................................................... ERROR!

That said, I would like to get somes ideas to what should I check in order to resolve thoses problems ?

Thank you for your support, I'll continue to search and read about WMI but any input will be more than appreciated.

I don't find anythings wrong for now, any ideas ?

Check the event logs for the DCOM error to see what DCOM object is causing the trouble. Then use DCOMCNFG to set permissions on the object.

I hope you find this post helpful.

I don't see anythings related to "DCOM" and I also run the wmi diag tool with the syntax to put info in event viewer and the only thing I see is an error with :

(WQLQuery) :

There's no more info... Source WSH since the diag tool is in VBS and Event ID 1.

SO I don't known where to check out for theses error.

I did the test on anoter of my server, the one with replication of the AD on Win2k advanced server SP4 and it passed the test.

Did you checked my log and txt files ?

Did you check both Application and System logs?

I hope you find this post helpful.

I just got a few mins ago, but Backup Exec is currently running in remote, maybe it's related for this event :

Event ID : 10006

DCOM got error "Class not registered " from the computer SONOSRV04 when attempting to activate the server:
{D99E6E73-FC88-11D0-B498-00A0C90312F3}

Looking for other Dcom error, The Sonosrv04 server was checked and WMI is fine on it.

I also got the same DCOM event id error in the system log, when I did a test with Backup Exec 11d installation diagnostic tool and I got

DCOM got error "The server process could not be started because the configured identity is incorrect. Check the username and password. " from the computer SONOSRV04 when attempting to activate the server:
{34AB7170-379E-11D2-AC0D-00105A0D1A42}

I was using a domain admins account, and admin on the sonosrv04. IT's weird.

Any ideas are welcome, thank you again for your help. I'm still trying to figure out what's going wrong...

Go into DCOMCNFG and under Component Services/Computers/my Computer/DCOM Config, look for the referenced DCOM object. Check the properties and look for the ID being used to launch it.

Thank you for your support, I don't known what to do with dcomcnfg since I don't have any error in my event log to refer to and the only errors I found with the wmi diagnostic tool are the ones at the end of the log files and there's nothing else than "error!"

So, It's look like I won't be able to resolve my issue with wmi, I'm still trying to do so, but...

Per your above post, in DCOMCNFG look for {34AB7170-379E-11D2-AC0D-00105A0D1A42} and check the identity information as I specified above.

I hope you find this post helpful.

Ok, I can't find {34AB7170-379E-11D2-AC0D-00105A0D1A42}, but this was only happening when I tryed with Backup Exec 11d diagnostic utility to test connection to a remote server and that wasn't working and put this event id.

Check the remote server for that DCOM object. You may need to assign rights to it to the ID used by Backup Exec.

I checked on the remote server for {34AB7170-379E-11D2-AC0D-00105A0D1A42}, but can't be find.

But currently, my main concern is that my server can't pass the wmi diagnostic tool with success and without the fact with this error related to a remote server, locally it should have something wrong and I can't find what's bad with my current configuration.

What could be the WMI dependancies ? Is there anythings affecting WMI ? Can we do a "reinstall" of wmi ?

Sorry for all thoses questions, but I'm learning about wmi, I never had to word directly with this, so...

Take a look at the following MS Troubleshooting Steps:

I jsut found somethings in : %windir%\System32\Wbem\logs\ about namespace and after that I checked again my event log and seen something about that also error : 0x8004100e

SO from a command prompt in the %windir%\system32\wbem directory I run this :

for /f %s in ('dir /b *.mof *.mfl') do mofcomp %s

I also followed theses steps since I had Event ID 2003

After that, my issue is resolved, WMI's working fine again ! :D
