PL
a few shor questions regarding WLM

Do I need a dedicated server for WLM or everything is configured on "clients-LPARS" only?
What manages CPU shared pool?
Any additional paid software has to be purchased?

thank you in advance,
.

Hey Man,
Each Lpar would have its own WLM config. Use a hyphen for shared. No additional S/W needed.
It is easier to use the gui interface (WSM) to setup WLM
than smitty.

Hi

WLM is a group of programs you can use to control the system resources of your AIX server. It's controlled by policies you can configure based on classes you give some characteristics. You use WLM in your physical server, or your LPAR as well.

PLM (Partition Load Manager) is a program that runs on an AIX server and can be configured to distribute excedent CPU power (or memory) between partitions (LPAR enviroment) that needed based on policy files. CPU Shared pool is a concept used in p5 servers whose partitions have the "Allow Shared pool" active.

Hope this helps
