I wonder if I can set up a network just using WLAN PC Cards in laptops, having one laptop accessing the Internet and the others using that laptop as a gateway?

The reason I am asking is not because I want to skimp not buying an Access Point router, I actually want to access Internet through a 3G PC card, creating a possibility of setting up a network anywhere I have 3G access.

It is called 'Ad Hoc' mode, and yes it is possible.
Assuming you are using your ethernet port or a modem for internet access.

Hi Bill,

I would be using the 3G card for internet access, so that is affirmative.

Going through the various options, I've encountered Internet Connection Sharing and Bridging. Maybe you can give me a few hints on how to proceed? I have a loose idea on setting up an ad-hoc network and then bridge it to the 3G connection. Will that suffice or do I need to enable ICS?

Thanks! Will report progress to this thread.

I managed to set up an ad-hoc network between 2 laptops, they can access each other.

How do I proceed to use ICS? One laptop (XP) is connected to Internet, I assume that this computer should be using ICS but I want it simply to relay requests from the other computer, no services resides on the XP computer it self, it relies on my own router for DHCP and my ISP for DNS.
