We currently have WLAN 2360 providing access to the corperate LAN. Using XP laptops users have to logon locally to the laptop before the wireless comes up so they can logon to the network.

Does anyone know if its possible to bring the wireless up before the user logs onto the machine so the are live logging onto the network, the same as if there was a wired connection?

Hi Andy,

This is possible through 802.1x & RADIUS. If you have 3d party software like Dell or Intel proset settings can be made in here. If you are using the windows xp zero config than you should be aware of the following. Once the laptop boots and wireless is enabled on the client there can be done machine authentication. However when a disconnect happens and a reconnects attempt is made users cannot logon anymore. In our RADIUS we do not see any machine authenticate communication coming from the client. The default setttings in xp seems to do only machine authentication during a boot. i red there are some registry settings which can be made, however i cannot recall these.

If you manage to have a seemless working machine authentication please share it.

Goodluck!

Thanks for that. I will give it a try and let you know the results.
