I've tried numerous times to install wk2pro and it always freezes the system on the final step - save settings. I've stripped it down to only video card, memory, harddrive, no luck.

P4 2.53
512K-PC3200 XMSCorsair memory
Diamond Viper 16MB Video
80g Western Digital HDD

Any ideas. I've stumped!

Thanks,
Dave

Change the memory?
Run the processor/memory at slower speed? (if possible)

The memory passes the memory test. I can't drop it below 133mhz, only 133/166/200mhz or inbetween.

Have you another stick of memory you could use though - yours may be good - but not in its current situation as far as 2k is concerned (example I had - 2x256MB. Machine worked perfectly with either on its own. With both it kept rebooting. Tried moving (had 3 slots) them - worked ok if in slots 1 and 3, no good in slots 1 & 2 or 2 & 3. This was win2k).

I've had the same symptoms happen to me with several installations of W2K and found that the cd had a corrupt file. Switched to a different W2K cd and everything worked fine. Not sure if this is the same in your case but it's worth a try.

The problem was the video card, Diamond Viper 550. The motherboard apparently had issues with it. I took it out, installed another card and wk2 installed perfect the first time. I switched the card back to the DV 550 after the OS was installed and everything is working fine now.

Although it shows my agp voltage is running high in my cpu monitor prg. I did need to change the following in the BIOS
AGP Aperture Size: 64M to 32M and AGP Mode: from 4X to 1X.

I have no idea what those settings do but it works now.
I suppose it would be best to purchase a newer card.

Thanks,
Dave
