I have a Western Digital 80gig with 2 partitions on it. It was working then my old pc messed up and wouldnt even turn on. Now i have my new pc and a new main hard drive but i am trying to recover alot of important information off my drive before i send it back to western digital. When i have the drive in i can get into the bios.. it shows it is there. Then when its booting up right after it does the windows load up bars it just goes blank and does move any further. Yes its set as slave now it doesnt work if i make it a master. Im using XP. I feel its hopeless but i just found this forum and figured i would ask. Thanks for the help!

Thanks! I tried it and unfortunately it wont boot up with the hard drive in it still it does the load thing then it shows the "BartPE" desktop and nothing else. It didnt help me out today but im sure this program will some time in the future and deffinately something ill add to my arsenal! Also while messing with that i streamlined SP2 with my copy of XP and made it unattended install so my days of formating will be a breeze! Thanks for the useful info!

You'll need to approach the drive from a DOS or "IX" level. They don't require as much overhead to boot. I recommend imaging the drive to another of the same size, sector for sector. If the disk has physical errors, imaging software should allow you to ignore the errors and copy just the good ones. Then you'll need to use an extraction tool from the OS (Windows) level to pull what data's left from the image.

If you're running Win2k or XP, you could try (carefully) to connect the drive after boot has finished...leave the side off the PeeCee and good luck - it has worked for me...
