I have a BEFW11S4 and I am having problems with networking a wireless laptop and hardwire desktop. On both computers are the users and workgroup names, but neither computer sees the other. To make matters worse when I take the desktops ip and try to ping it I get a request timed out.
Which leads me to the next question. Could I have enabled something on the router which would not allow me to network.
One more thing on my DHCP client talbe I do not even see the desktop.
HELP!!!

Check for firewalls. If they are disabled , then you might try lowering the RTS value of the WNIC into 2402.

I will give it a try. I am also wondering could there be something on the router that is enabled that would block requests comming into the lan ports or to that extent.

Not by default.

Can both the laptop and desktop browse the internet? As long as their connection through the router is fine, then DHCP is setup properly.

Most likely, your problem is related to settings within Windows on both PC's. When you post threads on this site, you need to provide as much detailed information as possible (click the link in my signature for more information on that).

The Windows OS and listing what you've tried are two of the most important things you can provide.

I understand what you are saysing. And I do try to give as much information as possible, but sometimes I do leave bits out. I do appoligize for that.
Let me continue and maybe I can give you more information that will explain my situation better. With the problem at hand I have three machines. Xp pro, home, and win 98. Pro can ping 98 and get replies, but gets request timed out on home. Home can ping itself of course, but no other computer. With all of that I went to the DHCP client table and 98, and pro are there but home is not. That is why I asked the question about the router.
I do have all the names of the computers on each on computer and so on. The work group is setup. I just can not understand why home is have the problem.

Again...Are the PC's sharing an internet connection? Can all 3 access the internet. If the answer is yes, then it shouldn't be a DHCP problem. There are settings on the router than can interfere with LAN connectivity, but nothing by default.

This site has many articles for 98 and XP on sharing resources:

Don't forget to make sure XP's firewall is disabled for Home and Pro.

They all can access the internet and there is no firewall on them.
What on the router could interfere with the lan connectivity?
The reason for me asking is because I think items were changed from the default. Also, why would my xp home computer's ip address not show up in the DHCP client table.
