Might not be the right forum but what the heck...here goes.

I'm looking for a wiring solution for a new building we are moving into shortly. Our current phone system is connected via a standard 110 block and cross-connects to our internal block for our phone sets. However...our new building utilized an IP switch at one time and all the phone lines are pre-wired to RJ45 patch panels. What I need to be bale to do is to wire my 100 blocks directly to the RJ45 connections. My first thought was to simply strip CAT 5 cable at one end and punch it down to the block and add an RJ45 connector to the other end and plug it in. But...that would be a lot of work especially since I need to do this 64 times. Is there an adapter out there for this? Perhaps a patch cord for this purpose?

TIA,

P'

If your existing phone system is a 1 pair system like the norstar then you could just get a USOC patch panel and cross connect it to your existing phone system then use patch cords (line cords) to connect from the usoc patch panel to the cat 5 patch panel. You would have the ability to make changes to phone locations quickly and easily.

Hi Jerry

So what you're saying then is I would simply duplicate what they already have in place at this new location and then use standard RJ45 patch cables to connect them. Makes sense.

I'll be going there shortly and will see if I can do that.

Thnx!!

Pikk here.
One more thing...Actually...now that I think of it..the punch downs we use are Nortel BIX 10A. Are these the same as the 110's or would I need something different?

TIA

The BIX and 110 blocks are different and a different terminating tool is needed for each.

BIX is BEST. You will do better with using a patch cord as Jerry Reve suggests and punch the patch cord down to the port on your phone system. But what ever you do don't rip out the BIX. Bix is CAT6 compliant and is good enough to splice 150bT.

Excellent!

Thanks gang! I appreciate all the feed back. I did find some Pigtails from Nordx that will also work. As far as the BIX is concerned...I like it too so I'm certianly trying to keep it.

have a good one!
