I have a wire going to an Lucent 6 button ETR phone. It got cut by our maintenance department and I need it ASAP, is there anyway to know which set (or sets) of wires in the 8 wire bundle that actually carry the signal? with equipment such as a voltmeter? or do I need some regular phone type tools?

Thanks
Randy

Oh, by the way, I cannot find the end of the wire with the RJ-45 plug or I could just put a connector on it with the same wire pattern.

you can just splice the whole cable back together, wire for wire, and that should take care of it. best to run a new cable for it, but in a pinch it will get it running until that can be done.

thanks, tim

Scotchlocks,Pliers, scissors,(or diagonal cutting pliers) an extra Ft. or 2 of cable (in case you dont have slack) are the only tools you need, ussually. Splice all the pairs. It doesnt take much time, you dont want to have to get up in there later.
