Using a TN2198 U type interface what pinout do I use off the 25 pair cable to get my port.

Are the ports supposed to be Data Mod WCBRI or Station WCBRI?

will I need a separate anaolog line for voice or will it work with just the BRI

I did search.

Already looked at thread 6270, it did not offer me the info I am looking for though.

I need to know how to cross connect these ports so I can get them into CSU that will interface between the S8710 and the Polycom.

Do I need to change anything on the backplane or will a
straigft 25 pair cable over to the MDF suffice.

also on the TN2198 pack they are 2 wire ports but if you are using spids how do you get the B1 and B2 channels to the 4 ports on the back of the CSU?

Do you have to use the spid information?

As I have researched this it seems there are a few procedures that can be followed. None specify If you need to use Data-Mods or stations though.

The main sticking point for me is how to wire the ports to the equipment?

any assistance would be appreciated.

my friend, you are a little confused.

the TN2198 is a 2-wire ISDN U interface, your Polycom is a 4-wire S/T interface. You need an ISDN 2 to 4 wire converter to connect to your polycom (called an NT-1), same as you would if your ordered a BRI from your local Telco, which would be delivered on a 2-wire circuit.

The ISDN B1 and B2 are logical 64K data channels, they all come off the 1 2 wire circuit.

You add 2 Data modules for each BRI, you assing them to the same Port, for example, they both get assigned to 01A0501, thats how you get it working. The SPID information is sometimes needed, you will need to play around with it.

The link I posted above has the wiring diagram for the TN2198. If you wanted to do this without an NT1 2-wire to 4-wire converter (U to S/T interface), you need to buy a TN556D pack, which is a 4-wire S/T version of the TN2198

Mitch,

Not confused but frustrated.
I have the NT1 CSU and followed that wiring diagram to the exact detail but the board fails test 621 and each port 621 and 626 when I test to clear the alarms and errors that are generated.

I want this to work as if I did have the ISDN circuit through my local provider which is why I went with the
TN2198 circuit pack.

I'm trying to match our PBX to Polycom equipment that was purchased 3 years ago without the end user having to purchase any additional equipment.

My other issue here was that I was told by another vendor to set the Endpt Init? as "n" on page 2 of the Data Module form. By doing so that only allows one extension per port not the required 2.

If I have this all set up correctly should I be able to grab dial-tone with a regular 2500 set on the back of the NT1 (CSU)? It has four U-type interface ports going in with 4 S/T type ports coming out each with 2-ports to connect to individually.

Thanks,

you can't use a 2500 set, its a digital interface, not analog. You can't test it with anything other the the polycom or an ISDN BRI test set, unfortunaley.

If you look at the thread I posted, it shows how the data modules need to be configured, I believe.

the 4 wire S/T interface side connected with 2 pair cables to each polycom port, the other side, the 2 wire U interface will connect to the data module on the TN2198 card. You may have to enable endpt init, to assign the 2 B channels per port.

Also, I have some bad news for you. Unless your PRI provider on your switch is either AT&T or Sprint, it is unlikely you will be able to make 64K clear channel data calls through the PBX, even if you do get the BRI's working properly. The reason is, hardly any providers other than the 2 mentioned pass 64K data calls any longer.

I saw in another thread (don't remember the number)
As long as the framing is B8ZS-ESF the 64k data calls should work.

This information is not correct?

I have 2 vendors telling me they have this set up and working on their PBX's with Verizon PRI-ISDN service and that it is in fact working.

I'd hate to go through all this to find out that it doesn't work.

For kicks and giggles, can this same scenario but with the BRI's config'd as stations - can it work that way?

Thanks.

The issue is with the PRI carriers, they simply will not pass most 64K data calls, which is pretty much a requirment for using a BRI to call other polycoms. There is nothing you can do on the switch to fix this.
