Wirelessly connecting to win7pc with tablet

After 7 years I decided to upgrade my complete pc with one that had win 7 on it. My old one had win xp.
I have two tablets and mainly using my samsung note 10.1. Since I got the new pc up and running I find that I can't access my document and picture folders using es file explorer android app.
I can see the PC on my network, I can access the users directory but the admin, c drive and f drive have a $ sing next to them and give me a statement that login failed I don't have permission.

When I access the users side I see directories but none of these are the one I put files into. I don't want to have several directories of the same files and would like to access any part of the PC I want w/o having to do logins or passwords. Like it was on XP.

One other note, I think the local network was set up as the "home group?". The old xp was just plain workgroup.

Any ideas would be appreciated but if you give suggestions please make them detailed. I have found "so called" fixes but then they seem to leave out a step and I'm lost again.

Thanks

Ken

For ease of access, I would recommend something like Dropbox to sync files / folders etc between devices / pcs. I use it at home to sync between my Win 8 Machine, two Android smart phones and a Nexus 7. Works perfect.

Well the first thing would be to share folders on the Win 7 desktop out to the network. The $admin $c shares are default shares for administrative purposes and should not be uses to access the machine.

You can follow this youtube video:

It's not the best security practice sharing the entire C: drive as shown in that video. Better to pick individual folder locations when possible. If you do want to share the entire drive, then you should consider turning on "password protected sharing" as shown here:

The tutorial actually mentions that if it's a secure home network, skipping that step will make things simpler, but I still recommend it especially when connecting via WiFi, secure or not. Just my 2¢
