Wireless solution between two buildings

OK here is my problem. I have to design a WIRELESS network that connects the following:

In one building there is 2 floors and basement. In the basement is a Web Server and SQL server in one room, and about other offices with one PC each who need access to the server. On the first floor of that building about 15 PC’s that need access and on the second floor the same. Then there is a building 500 feet across the street that has about 150 PC’s on each of 3 floors that need access to the network.

I am quite unsure of where to even begin, this project is to be done in the simplest terms, nothing too extreme. Here are my ideas:

Connect the servers to a router that is both wireless and cable ready. The router will be right next to the servers to that will be connected with good old Cat 5e cable. Then a wireless switch on each floor in the building, for which the PC’s on that floor can use, and a bridge on the top with an antenna that transmits to the other building. Then on the top of the second building, an antenna and a bridge, and then wireless hubs on each floor.

I am so confused about this, and also I do not understand where an access point would fit into all of this… please help!

ok for one thing i hope you are not planning to use cable internet! go with a t-1 or more.

now here's how you need to look at this network. the only thing that needs to be wireless is the link between the two buildings and thats where the AP unit will be used. while keeping in mind that the bandwidth in your wireless link will probably not be enough for the amount of pc's in each building/floor. is it possible to run fiber at all? you may even want to look into two seperate links from building to building. don't get me wrong it will work fine with one but you will indeed be limited on bandwidth to each user. so, network file transfers will be slow. there are many different websites you can look at that will draw you a better picture on how that link will be made. try

as for the rest of your network, it would depend on what you wanted to do. there are of course hundreds of different ways to do it while the building to building "bridge" will act as solely a ethernet connection from one point to another. for example when useing fiber it would be like connecting one fiber card to another on a cisco switch.

It would be a little irresponsible to make a specific recommendation without knowing a lot more about the physical site and what you want to accomplish.

If it is just to make the link between buildings there should be, should be, no big problem to create a wireless bridge to your existing LAN segments.

As you must already have wired switches or hubs in place, it sounds as if you only need a wired router in the basement, hard wires from it to the server machines, the switches on each floor, and an access point with an antenna somewhere on the building pointing to the access point antenna on the other building. The access point on the other building connects to a switch, and you run cable to the switches on the other floors.

The only wireless would be the building to building bridge link.

bcastner and interNETech gave u the idea on how to run the systems inside so fro the wireless link between bldg..jst implement the wireless radio, some of the isp will provide u a units on the two bldgs...and this is easy to install the only problem is the termination they use rj-45 from the so called SU to ur computer and uses ADSL router of linksys we have implemented that here in the phils using leaseline of 512kbps and its work fine except if it's raining here..i guess rains affect the transmission of wireless....

bridge are expensive. T-1 is expensive.

Since you have two building, why don't you have two Cables line connect to internet, which is secure and stable and you can always have one as backup.

I am a very cheap person.

To link two building together, I won't bother myself using any Access Point or Bridge.

I'll most likely just use Two Wireless PCI Card (Ciso PCI card is fairly sensitive. Cost around HK$2,332.00). Set them up into two server. You this two Server to route two network's traffic. A good 2.4Ghz 802.11b can gives 11mb (Line of sight not that important in Cisco's AIR-PCI350) or if you required high bit rate) try 5Ghz 802.11a which get 54mb.
