It should work no problem if the wireless router is any good , i would reccomend you stick with the same maker as the the router for your wireless nic card that you will need to buy for the for pc . Also when using wireless make sure you set up a wireless encryption method (WEP or WPA) , non default SSID and also use mac address filtering , this will keep any of your neighbors from using your wireless connection . Your router book should show you how to set this stuff up .
The window isn't going to make any difference . Stuff like steel partitions and concrete walls can kill wireless . I use Netgear 11B wireless (mr814 V2) and have had this for over a year now without a problem .
I have had varied success in homes using off-the-shelf style wireless routers. One thing I would recommend, is look for a product offering the ability to add external antennas. Nothing beats having that to fall back on if you lose signal in certain areas of the house. Then you can purchase a relitively inexpensive add-on antenna (there are several different types depending on application) which can be used to fine tune your signal.
Usually the cost of getting a router with this feature isn't much.
