Would appreciate any idea's people may have...

one of our users has the following setup...

A Router connected to DSL line and hard wired to their PC.
A Wireless Router connected to DSL line.

Because the above 2 routers can't be connected to the same DSL line at the same time the user swaps them over depending on their need
(They have 2 routers because their house is too big for the wireless signal to reach the PC so hence the seperate router)

The Wireless Router works fine, however when the user unplugs the Wireless router from the DSL line and reconnects the Hardwired Router to the DSL line it fails to work.

Both Routers have been setup with exactly the same network and security settings and it did work when it was first setup.

Again, any ideas would be appreciated.

Many Thanks

Are the routers both constantly powered and all that is being done is moving the cable to to the modem? I am thinking you would need to shut off the router then turn it back on so the ISP will redetect the MAC address for the router.

BTW, you can connect a wired router and wireless router at the same time. The setup in my home has a wired router and two PCs connected to my modem. A wireless router is connected to it through 75 feet of cable. Take a look at this diagram of my network paying attention to the I/P settings:

Thanks for the reply and diagram.

I'll try as you suggested. I thought it may have been a problem with the mac address. Trying to save myself a 'home visit' !

Thanks again.
