I have a company laptop that I cannot use a wireless connection on, I can only plug my modem cable right into the computer. My wife works out of the house and she uses the connection a good deal of the day so that limits my ability to plug in to get into our VPN. Here is what I would like to do. Get a wireless router to attach to our base system and then get a receiver that I can plug into the network connection on the laptop. The laptop will not accept a wireless card, so I figure this my do the trick. Does such a product exist?

Please let me know if I need to clarify the question.

Thanks in advance

You said "The laptop will not accept a wireless card". Do you mean the company won't allow you to connect a WiFi card, or that the laptop doesn't have a PCMCIA slot, or you can't get one to work? What about a USB WiFi adaptor?

What sort of connection do you have to the internet? 56K analogue dialup? ADSL?

You talk about attaching a wireless router to "our base station", and then "get a receiver that I can plug into the network connection". What sort of distances are we talking about between the two? Assuming they're relatively close to one another, plug a wireless AP which is compatible with your router into the laptop ethernet port, and configure both of them in bridge mode.

I think the USB wifi adaptor is exactly what I am looking for. Thanks!
