just installed a D-Link DI-524 wireless router (802.11G/2.4GHz), and need assistance in securing the network, as we are currently running under the default settings. we have 3 cpu's at home on the network, and a few neighbors joining in during the evening as well, it seems...
Not sure how to enable WEP, nor change SSID, etc.
THANKS!!!!

First of all , Download the Manual, if you don't have it. If you do, then look at the Page that says, Using the Configuration Menu. It should tell you all there is to know on how to set WEP keys, and enable security etc...

To download the Manual Go here:

----------------------------------
Ignorance is not necessarily Bliss, case in point:
Unknown has caused an Unknown Error on Unknown and must be shutdown to prevent damage to Unknown.

dont use wep, opt for at least wpa, better, if ur hw allows, wpa2
disable promote ssid
disable wan ping
disable dhcp
enable spi firewall.....

Unless you know how to configure IP addresses, don't disable DHCP!

To set up WEP (or WPA, or WPA2) you need to use a web browser to visit the router's built-in set-up page (normally something like The manual will tell you how to do this. It's best to make one change at a time so don't change the SSID (or turn off SSID broadcast) until you've set up the security and it's all working.

When you set up the WEP/WPA key or pass-phrase, make sure you WRITE DOWN the key. Also copy it, paste it into notepad and save the file. Once you've set up security your computers will no longer be able to connect to the router until you have configured each one with your new security settings.

The manual should tell you how to do all of this.
