Hi,
I have an XP laptop that uses ActiveSync to sync a smartphone with outlook (syncs with a cable). If the laptop is connected to the Internet via wireless, and a sync is performed between the laptop and phone, the laptop and anyone else connected to the wireless network disconnects. The laptop and anyone else on the wireless will reconnect and get an IP address, but cannot talk to the Internet or anyone else. The only way to fix it is to reset the router. It happens on both a Linksys WRT54G and WRT54GS. Anyone ever experience this, or anyone have any ideas?

I believe that this may be linked to firewall permissions on the client pc, and attempts by the client computer to assign an IP address to the smartphone. I don't think the router's the factor - look to the pc that you're connecting the smartphone to.

I encountered this at home when synching a Windows Mobile 5 device - connecting the device would knock all clients off the network. Can't remember the details I'm afraid and I no longer have the device so have removed the relevant permissions. I resolved it after checking my ZoneAlarm logs.
