A customer of mine is using a netgear wireless router (about a year old, but I don't know the model). It has an antenae for wireless connects, four cat5 ports for wired connects and another cat5 where the dsl modem plugs in.
They have one computer that uses a wired connect and one that uses a wireless connect.
When I plug the dsl modem directly into the first computer (skipping the router completely) it works perfectly. When I add the router, basic surfing still works, but frontpage running on the wired computer, times out, (as do some other ip-based programs).
The customer used to have a cable modem and a previous tech must have encountered the same problem, because the router was serving as a wireless hub, with the modem attached via usb to one computer and the internet access shared using micro$oft's internet connection sharing. Now the customer can only use dsl (they moved) and the modem involved is cat5 only, with a fixed ip address which conflicts with the router's ip address. (As a result, I cannot mimick the previous tech's solution and actually have to figure out the problem instead)
Has anyone encountered difficulties when working with Frontpage through a wireless router? Any ideas on how to make the router respond quicker or to make the ip-based programs more patient?
Thanks in advance for any assistance!
Peace,
Colt.
If it's stupid but it works, it isn't stupid
