Does anyone know a cost effective wireless point to point solution for phone system extensions (working with Nortel or Avaya). I have a customer building at a small airport with no trenched in cable that needs a phone and a new system. Any suggestions would be great.

Use a proprietry VoIP system to suit you PABX and a point to point Wireless link,
I have used this setup (on a Panasonic PABX) for a remote Office and it works well

I have two cisco wireless APs pointing at each other with two Avaya IP Offices on each side with digital phones on each.

Another way would have the AP plugged into a power over ethernet switch with IP phones hanging off them. The reason I did two systems was the client also needed analog devices on the other side of the link.

Thanks trotski and kruthansen. IP does sound like a good idea. They probably need an anolog fax also. So two systems may be needed. Of course they are always worried about price too. I think the voip systems and access points may work. Can it reach 200 meters outdoors?

the level One System we used has a reach of upto 4km we had to turn the power output down from the default level to work over about 150mtrs

Could slap ATA's on the fax to get them to IP as well. Very hit and miss if you need a modem though.

Only the truly stupid believe they know everything.

Nortel makes a "VOIP Gateway" that takes an analog trunk output from a phone system converts the analog to VOIP and puts it on a network. 4 inputs on each gateway.

basically grab an imput line, get dial tone, dial the ID number of the far end gateway "1, 2, etc" the far end gateway sends a ring to the far end phone switch.

Real basic, check with your vendor if you think this might be what you are looking for.

MultiTech makes the MultiVoIP that would work also. You supply analog station port on one side it changes it over to IP then on the other side you have another one that converts from IP back to analog. They have 1, 2, 4 and 8 port devices that can be both FXO (Trunk) and FXS (Station).
