I need to connect 2 desktops using wireless. They are 600-ft apart at opposite ends of a plant nursery and have only slight tree obstruction. There are 3 walls to penetrate in the 2 buildings. A third building is 150-ft from the base, and 500-ft from the wireless computer.

I am frustrated by the teenagers reading from a script when I use the livechat on the linksys site.

Is there a workable solution on the market? Is it under $500?

From the list the Belkin Pre-N has a range of up to 1000 feet, might be worth looking into.

Ignorance is not necessarily Bliss, case in point:
Unknown has caused an Unknown Error on Unknown and must be shutdown to prevent damage to Unknown.

you could always talk to the cdw.com wifi sales dudes.. they could hook you up with some gear.. thats a really big distance though you are going to need something with a directional antenna I'd imagine.

I wouldnt suggest going with pre-n equipment unless the adapter and the access point are the same brand.

Two points.

(A) Can you mount a repeater on a high point where both ends could see it?

(B) If both buildings are on the same phase and run through the same electricity meter, you might get a couple of Ethernet-over-Mains adaptors to work...

Thanks Roger.

Different meters, different lots, so ethernetovermainsnogood. The one building sort of in betweedn is not near the middle. I guess I am really trying to find out what is wireless anyway? Can it really only be used for short range - i.e. in one small building? Why not feet?

Daniel,

You can do longer range with wireless. We use 7 wireless bridges to reach buildings anywhere from 1 mile to 6 miles away. The issues that come into effect are: having the right attennas to meet your needs, having a clear line of site, being able to get your signal over any obstructions, the longer the distance/the slower the connection. We have had real good luck with these. Two of our bridges are done with Proxim High-speed wireless bridges. The other 5 are done with Cisco 1200 series AP's. I do think that the longer the distance that you want to work with, the more likely you will need to hire an experienced wireless company.
