My boss has told me that I have to hack the wireless network that I have just installed, we have silver and gold orinoco cards.

And a Orinoco AP2000 wireless device. I am using WEP 5 and 13 key wep. I have tried Airosnort and Airopeek none of these work. And my boss is not willing to spend £15k on buying the wireless sniffer by NAI.

I have got a copy of Sniffer Basic, which gives the option of monitoring wireless 802.11, but nothing is captured. I assume this is down to the encryption can anyone help?

I have connected and successfully sniffed wireless networks using a shareware product called Netstumbler. Be aware though that the PC Card you use is limited to their supported hardware. I can't remeber all the cards on their list but I used a CableTron RoamAbout. Originally my Cisco Aironet 350 Card didn't work and wasn't support, thus the CableTron. Once working though I was able to see wirless networks, wep keys used if any (you'd be suprised), channels, SSIDs, ESSIDs, preambles, signal strengths, MACs...... I was very impressed with the product.

Have at it!

yes, I have netstumbler its the first thing i downloaded, its ok, but once you enable closed system on the box its virtually useless. But what i do not understand is this, for a test I disabled the closed system on the AP and using a Orinoco gold card, i found the signal being broadcast by the box. this gives you the mac address of the AP and the network name. But i dont get anything in SSID or ESSID, I am doing somthing wrong or is it just the card?

Also we now use Steel belted Radius with WEP Plus I would be very grateful if anyone out there knows of programs that cant get around this kind of security.

And any cards that can pentrate this security

From one network tech to another we dont wanna lose our jobs when you know what hits the fan. :)
