Wireless networking question

I have the following setup:

PC-----Wired router-----802.11b AP.....802.11g router-----(Cable Modem)

(Note: ----- = wired connection, ..... = wireless connection, "Cable Modem" is in parentheses because it won't become part of this config until tomorrow morning when Mr Comcast shows up!)

IP address are (respectively): 192.168.0.100, 192.168.0.51, 192.168.0.50, 192.168.0.1. All devices are set to subnet 255.255.255.0 and both wireless devices are on channel 6 with WEP disabled (because I'm only testing for now and trying to minimize complexity). The PC is connected to LAN port 1 of the wired router, then there's a cable going from LAN port 4 of that router to the AP's LAN port. The wired router is an SMC7004ABR, the AP is a D-Link DWL-700AP and the 802.11g router is a D-Link DI-524.

Here's the problem: I can't contact the 802.11g router from the PC. I can contact the AP with no problem and I've confirmed that the 802.11g router works fine by plugging it into the wired router and getting to it that way. I just can't contact it over the air, via the AP (which is set to run as a wireless client, incidentally). I can't ping the 802.11g router and I can't access its config page, but here's the weird thing: the AP's log shows that it IS connected to the 802.11g router.

Am I doing something really dumb here? As far as I can see this should all work okay but I have a sneaking suspicion that I'm missing something obvious. (As you can tell, I'm not really a networking expert!)

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

I think you're using the wrong type of wireless device.

With the AP configured as a client device, it will not route traffic.

What you want is a wireless bridge.
