I have a laptop that uses a WAP to connect to my business network. Every 3-4 minutes the wireless network connection gets interrupted or disconnected and then immediately becomes available again.

I have to manually connect to the network each time it does this. I think that it started doing this when I implemented WEP security (I don't recall this happening before I did this).

Someone please help me figure this out! Thanks!!!

Some details on the router model, and the model of your wireless adapter would help give specific advice.

The general answer then:

1. Disable 802.1x authentication if available as a choice on both AP and network adapter;

2. If you are using the adapter Client software for the connection, and are using Windows XP, disable the Wireless Zero Configuration Service. Start, Run, services.msc, scroll down until you see the Wireless Zero Configuration Service, double-click, Stop the service, then set its startup to disabled.

3. If you computer uses a TI PCMCIA controller chip, see if the adapter manufacturer offers a TI-patched version of the client driver. Some do.

4. If using XP, use Control Panel and remove the Hotfix Q815485, the WPA enhancement. I do not recommend using this enhancement at the moment until the AP firmware can support it fully.

This appears to have fixed the problem. Thank you very much for your quick and thorough response!
