Hi, not sure if this is a stupid question or not, but i kinda need to know quite quickly.

i have an adsl wireless router (3com office connect 3crwdr100a-72) and i have it connected to my pc with the ethernet cable for internet. i was wondering if anybody could tell me if i could have this 1 single computer with my 3com usb wirelss adaptor plugged in, to access the router wirelessly to use the internet. so i could stick the router out of site somewhere away from my computer. is this possible?

i have tried and failed to do this before ive posted here.

if not with my current hardware what else would i need. i do have myself a second computer but i was just wondering if this scenario was at all possible.

any help much apprecited.

Yes, you can.

Sounds like your adsl configuration is already configured, so all you need to do is set you wireless configuration.

Most devices have an in-built wizard to help you do this, but in short all you need to setup is your dhcp, ssid, & encryption method. This is all done on your router.

Now just install your USB wireless adapter, scan for wireless networks, connect to your ssid & enter the encryption key you configured on your router and you should be all set.

This is a very basic scenario with encryption (which I suggest you use!). There are many other options to consider, especially in terms of securing your wireless network. Take a look at forum730 for more info..

thanks SjrH, knowing now that its possible, i should get it working with some effort... i know a little about security... was using WPA encryption when i had the two pc's on the go, one with ethernet the other was using the usb adaptor.

must of done something wrong that it didnt work, just dont think it be the encryption key though... maybe dhcp or ssid... ach il figure it out. thanks again
