Hello All

I have got wireless network card and i have tie up with my neighbor for internet connection(legally). last weekend I had moved the computer from my sister room to my room and hooked up the cables etc.,

now my connectivity shows excellent strength but i am not able to hook up to the internet.

I tried the following ways:

i gave ipconfig/all and got ip address and default gateway blank.

i tried ipconfig/release and then ipconfig/renew.

Still it says couldn't configure.

Is there any way i can hook up my computer to browse internet.

i checked the properties of local area connections and checked for the obtain ip address and dns stuff checked and infact they are all checked.

still i am not able to hook up to internet.

Your help will be truly appreciated.

hello all,

i am able to get the ip address and default gateway by typing it manually selecting the USE the following IP address and use the DNS server addresses.

When I say ipconfig/all it shows perfectly the ip address and the default gateway.

my wireless connections on the bottom right of screen says connection excellent but still I am not able to log to internet.

I would look in wireless connection properties and see if your PC is connecting to your neighbor's wireless or automatically connecting to some other wireless close by.

Next, in Network Connections right click your connection name and then Repair (I have to do this one periodically on my son's PC).

Hi Frank

I tried the wireless connection properties and clicked the repair but its still not going through. i manually entered the ip address and the dns server address given by my neighbor and it showing up in the ipconfig but when i say ipconfig/renew to renew the address it wouldnt' allow me.

when i say ipconfig/renew or ipconfig/release it says there is no network adapter. but when i reboot the computer my network connections says excellent connectivity but when i open internet explorer it still says the page cannot be displayed.

I tried to ipconfig/release and it shows all addresses 0.0.0.0 and when i tried the ipconfig/renew

it displays the following:

An error occured while renewing.
interface wireless network connection six.
unable to contact to dhcp server.
request timed out.

any clue to what i should do to fix this.

your help will be truly appreciated.

they may have to kick the wifi router...

make sure you have DNS servers listed in the ipconfig /all also... you can have an address and a gateway.. but if you dont have DNS you arent goin' anywhere

has someone diabled the dhcp server on the router? Also tracert is a good tool to see how far you are getting. Try tracert 66.102.7.99 ( see if you get anywhere and if so how far.

I'd also check to see if by accident your mac address was banned...or maybe the log/pass was changed..I change log/pass to stop local leeching...also in Network Connections right click your connection name and then Repair.. last simply unplug the router and wait 2 min then plug back it should reset automatic and search (I added a switch to my Linksys).

What network card are you using and what is the distance to the AP?

XP somrtimes (depending on the card) can show full signal, but that is the recieve strength and not a combination of the Transmitt/recieve.

You may be able to see the network but not send to, therefore no DHCP.

Can you go to your neighbours house and test it really close to the AP to remove signal strength as an issue?
