Hello,
I have a Netgear MR814 router and a cable modem connected to my WinXP PC.
I also have a Netgear MA311 pc-card connected to my Win98 laptop.
Internet connections work fine on both machines.

After verifying that I have distinct computer names and the same workgroup name for both computers, I set the printer on my Winxp machine to be shareable.

The Win98 machine cannot see the printer when I try to activate it with 'Add Printer'. In fact, it does not even recognize that there is a network when I click on Network Neighborhood.

Any idea on what I am doing wrong?
Thanks,
Will

what components do you have installed in network neighborhood properties on the win98 machine? "Jack of all trades. Master of none."

I have Client for MS Networks, The driver for the wireless card and TCP/IP bound to it.

Forget your printer for the moment - the first problem to resolve is your network. Fixing your network will probably fix the printer access.

Firstly, check if the PCs are connecting in any way.
The MR-314 has some issues with connecting LANs (connects the machines to the DSL WAN fine, but doesn't connect as a LAN). See faq562-3341 for details of this.

Check your IP configuration: what IP policy are you using? (e.g. both machines use an IP 192.168.0.x and subnet 255.255.255.0).
You can see your IP configuration by typing "ipconfig /all" in a DOS window.

also, in your post it don't mention that you set the network up on the software side. "Jack of all trades. Master of none."

your Win98 ip configuration looks OK...

Check if your XP firewall is turned on
Check if you can ping the router ("ping 192.168.0.1")
Check if you can ping the XP machine

Check your router's firmware version.
Your manual explains how to do this - the manual & the firmware update can be found at:
