Wireless Netgear router to Linksys router 1

I have an existing network sharing the internet and providing access between local computers using a Linksys Befsr81.

I have just acquired a Netgear wireless router MR314 with a MA101 and I was hoping to use the Netgear router to add wireless capability to the network. The MR314 has 4 10/100MB ethernet ports. Can I simply run a cable between the 2 routers or is this possible at all?

I guess I could also use the Netgear to connect to the DSL and remove the Linksys and use a 100MB switch or hub but I would prefer to use what I have.

The other solution would be to use an access point (?) and connect it to the Linksyts router. ???

Thanks

Thanks for a great tip. Worked like a charm.

To keep things simple I would just use the Netgear as long as it has enough wired ports for you . Compatability between some vendors is shakey at best . I use a Netgear on my DSL and it has been working great since November now .

You should use the Netgear and take out the Linksys. With the Netgear's capabilities, the Linksys becomes redundant and will add more complexity to your network which is not very efficient assuming you can get it to work with both at all. Also keep in mind if the Linksys has a built-in hub or switch, you can still use the Linkss as just a hub. Just don't use the WAN port.

As stated above I already have this working. What part would be inefficient?

I am curious what the capabilities are that you feel make the Netgear the better choice.

Since the Netgear has only 4 ports and the Linksys has 8 the Netgear by itself did not meet my needs for this project. Besides its wireless capabilities are old and slow. Actually I have found the Netgear to be less desireable in all things but price.

This has really been an experiment in whether this type of setup would work in a larger environment. And it worked fine I am going to add access points to an existing network to accomodate all anticapted wireless users. Since there are many interconnectivity problems between manufacturers several different access points will be used.

Thanks
