I have two desktop computers that sit side by side on my desk. One is a Win 7 with wireless keyboard/mouse. The other is an XP machine with wired keyboard and mouse. If I replace the wired keyboard/mouse with a wireless set, will the two keyboards and mice interfere with each other?

The answer is, yes, possibly!

Choosing the same make and model of keyboard and mouse is probably asking for trouble. Logitech, for example, produce wireless models and bluetooth models - it is my belief you'll stand a better chance of satisfactory side-by-side operation if you choose one of each mode.

Logitech did at one time have a technical page detailing which models used which part of the radio spectrum, i.e. the different operating frequencies. I cannot find that page now so maybe it's been withdrawn.

Some have 2 channels, I have a wireless mouse that does, has a small switch in the battery compartment. This is to cut down on interference issues with multiple wireless input devices.

most wireless devices operate in the 2.4 GHz band, this means that a lot of other devices operate in the same spectrum, e.g. AP's, routers, microwave ovens, wireless telephones, etc.

and as mentioned, some do operate on different channels, and to avoid interference test different manufacturers, or go cable bound on one and wireless on the other...
