Not sure where to put this but it is on a XP Pro machine.

Had an old Microsoft 1014 wifi keyboard and mouse combo which started to miss random keys when typing. Replaced batteries and still no go. Replaced keyboard and mouse with the 2000 series from Newegg and worked fine for a day. Now its back at it. Can you change the frequency this operates on in case there is something interfering? Cant seem to find that info.

Any other ideas?

Can't change the frequency, some Logitech combos have a switch to change the channel used. Or you could look into IR if RF is an issue.

How far is the K/B from the USB transmitter? Is the computer under the desk?

Try moving the transmitter to another USB port and keep it away from speakers, wireless router, UPS and video cables. If the system has WiFi, try turning off the radio and use a wired connection. Fluorescent desk lamps can be problems. Look for anything attenuating the RF signal.

Cinderella song title is: Don't Know What You Gof (Till It's Gone).
Big Yellow Taxi by Joni Mitchell has the line: You don't know what you've got till it's gone
Neither is exactly as per your sig.

Reciting from memory but more for the task of BUs, noted none the less. Plus didn't think anyone would actually know or bother to look into it. :)

It has worked with a wireless USB keyboard/mouse combo for over a year and just started doing this over the last couple weeks. So I would assume that positioning wasn't the issue nor common distance/interference issues. It comes and goes. Assumed batteries, nope. Assumed faulty keyboard, bought a new one and same issue.

The USB port that both transceivers were plugged into were on a PCI USB card in the same port so I moved it to an open port on the motherboard. Hoping that was truly the issue and haven't heard anything back since doing so but this issue would sprout randomly so only time will tell.

That being said, does anyone remember a virus that would cause this or possibly a key-logger of some sort?

Hi DrBob

Couldn't agree more about backups - can't have too many.

So maybe there was some kind of noise or whatever on the USB port on the PCI card. I guess wait for a recurrence; but if it was something to do with the USB I would have thought the mouse would be affected also.

If it does return, I would try a cheap wired USB keyboard to eliminate RF as the cause.

I suppose a (poorly written) virus/keylogger could cause this, but I've never seen it myself.

Yea, I figured if it was an interference issue the mouse would have been spotty as well. Seems to still be working correctly so hopefully it was just a bad connection or the PCI card is going out. Either way I hope this issue is solved because Im not sure what else could be happening.
