Good Day,

I am currently using a Memorex 5500RF Wireless keyboard and mouse.

As i'm a domain administrator on my network my boss is worried that someone could "use" the wireless signal from my keyboard to gain access to passwords I type such as the domain admin' password.

Although I disagree and believe that the signal from these keyboards is encrypted/unique, I wondered if anyone had any knowledge of this kind of problem.

If so please can you let me know, good or bad?

Thanks and Regards,
Mike Firth

The wireless signal has a very limited distance. I don't really think that you should be at all worried about this problem. I don't even know if it would be possible or if any one would really want to try. If it was a wireless network then you could have problems, but I can't see it with a keyboard. Tell your boss to get a life & stop being paranoid.

It is certainly possible to do so. Whether anyone would bother is a good question I do not believe your boss feels like being asked.

Just use a wired keyboard. You can keep the mouse.

(Just don't tell him the wired keyboard can be interecepted if one wanted to do so).

I heard stories about a guy using a wireless keyboard in his house and the neighbour received some of his typing on his computer.

With primary computers dealing with passwords, I would have to go with 'bcastner' in use a "wiRED KeyBoard".

Just to be on the secure side.

Hi There,

Thanks for all your replies...you gave me a giggle and pointed out the inevitable truth as well.

I showed my boss the forum and he, erm, "defended himself" against kestrel1's comments and insists he IS paranoid.

Thanks once again!

Mike Firth
