Hi all.

I'm trying to set up a Orinoco Gold wireless on a laptop with win2000 server. With the install CD I have no problems, I can browse the net, etc. But when I try to open Sniffer Pro 4.7.5 SP 2, I have the message that appears when the NIC is not configured correctly. I tried to use the drivers provided by Sniffer ( agereOrinoco and Proxim ) but once applied and Laptop restarted, the adapter doesn't start. In the Wireless intallation Guide says "make sure you choose the Sniffer ( Orinoco ) wireless adapter 5V", is this the voltaje of the adapter ? the back of my card has a mark next to the 3.3V, may this be the problem ? Remember that the adapter works fine without the Sniffer drivers.

The complete model is: Orinoco Gold Proxim 802.11a/b Combo Card Model 8460.

Thanks in advance !

I'm quit sure a tech support call will result with the message: this card is not officially supported by snifferpor.
The only quick resolution might be to go for a Cisco 350 or a Symbol card. I never had any problems with these two cards...
Regards, Walter

Hi Walter:

Thanks for your answer, do you know of those card support both standars ( 802.11a and b ) ?

Also, this card I have is "Orinoco Proxim", and drivers available are "AgereOrinoco" and "Proxim Harmony". I suppose those are different, aren't they ?

Many thanks in advance !

The ORiNOCO Gold PC card is supported by Sniffer Pro Wireless.
And the Proxim Harmony 802.11a CardBus card is too.
But these are two seperate cards.
Both cards are from a different manufacturer?
Are you saying you have a combo of the two for 802.11b and 802.11a?

Hi:
Yes, I have only one card that supports both - 802.11a and b - all in only one card. I think this is the problem, that we need a card that only support one of those standards at a given time. 802.11b or 802.11a and not both, what do you think about it ? Remember, the card works fine without Sniffer drivers.

Thanks in advance...

Sounds like bad news... I heared from a nai rep that he actually did see a sniffer working with a "whatever" orinoco based card. However, if the driver refuses to work, you may have to grab a supported card.
good luck, Walter
