First off, let me say, I know just enough about the BCM 200 to be dangerous.

The hardware we currently have is: Cisco 1811w router, Nortel BCM 200, and i2004 desk phones.

That being said, we picked up a cheap Nortel 2211 thinking this would be a great solution to our needing a wireless phone in the office.

Well, after purchasing the phone we've come to the conclusion that we need an SVP server in order for this to work based on this documentation:
Also based on the above documentation, it sounds like we need a "gatekeeper", which the SVP server can also act as.

Before we throw another $350 at a Netlink SVP server, can someone confirm that we're on the right track in getting this 2211 phone to work with the BCM? Any tidbits of information are appreciated. Thanks!

SR

The WLAN Handset 2211 emulates an IP Phone 2004 on your BCM so operates completely via IP. You do require the WLAN Telephony Manager 2245. It comes in a 10-unit version as the minimum configuration.

Wow..that's the first time I've heard of the 2245. It looks like it's going to be way out of our price range... thanks for the reply.

Is the 2211 and 2245 available easily in Canada and US areas? If the 2211 emulates a 2004, why is it necessary to have a 2245 on the system? It would seem that the extension number assignment would come from the BCM. What exactly does the 2245 do or is it only required with multiple 2211 units?

2210/2211/2212 and 2245 are available globally. The 2245 (when used with WLAN Access Points which also support SVP) provides QoS through priority queuing for voice packets over data, predictable/timed delivery of packets (which also translates to greater battery life) and admission control to avoid over-subscription.

So even if the 2211 was set up on a wireless network with no data traffic except for the phone, it wouldn't or couldn't connect with the BCM for testing purposes?
