A local Telephone Company is offering wireless internet at DSL speeds in my area (NOTE: I am unable to get DSL or Cable at all). I am curious to see if anyone has used a similar service an how they like it.

From what I understand how it works is, they install a device on your house that is line-of-sight with a tower that provides the service. Then hook it up to a NIC in your computer. From what I have heard from a tech that works there, it the service should be treated as beta, even though it is not (but that would be a diffent thead). I am looking for facts and opinions.

Any information would be helpful. Mike Wills

Hi, I personally love it! I have sprints wireless at 5mbps down and 256k up and it works great. I'm in the same boat as you.. f*cking phone company Probably will never get dsl out here and the cable comp told me 2more wks.... well that was 4months ago. I would recommend wireless to any one who can’t obtain dsl or cable. The only thing I’m not happy about is the up speed.. I only get about 20k up. Not bad but could be a whole lot better. Other then that I love it.

Hi, I also have wireless internet access and I really love it but i was wondering, does anybody knows if i can use a router/firewall to share the connection with another computer? cause i just bought a Dlink router and i`ve trying to configure it but no idea how to do it, maybe it is not possible to use it with wireless connections? i really appreciate your help. thanks.

help120,

What kind of ping times do you get? Is online gaming possible? Mike Wills

Ping times will be based on how many hops back to the ISP....usually no more than 20-30ms tops on a good system. Our system runs <4ms all the time on a 1mb dsl uplink. So, yes, it's great for gaming...unlike other connection options.

Wireless Internet is a great option for those of us who are outside the DSL market...and sometimes better than being in a DSL market as not having to deal with a phone company!
