I am attempting to get my daughter's iBook G3 wireless. Apple doesn't make the Airport card any more so we are using DLink DWL122 USB wireless connector that comes with the MAC driver. She installed it and it received the networks but won't accept the WEP codes to be compatable with my network on a Linksys router. I know nothing about Apples. I think that the install is flawed for that driver which is at the bottom of the page when you open the preferences tab. I would like to "uninstall" that wireless software and attempt a new installation of it but drag and drop doesn't work on that "Wireless" icon and the uninstall scripts provided by delink don't do it either. It does receive the wireless signal just fine but "incorrect WEP code" keeps it from being usable. Any ideas on how to dump that "Wireless" driver?

Well this doesn't help with the driver but want to mention that there are tons of airport cards on eBay.

Wow JT that almost looked like you knew what you were doing!

I used to use the D-Link adapter for my iBook G3, but it comes with a very buggy driver. It crashed my system after about 10 minutes almost everytime. I had a Linksys Access Point with 128bit WEP on it, and it seemed to work just fine with the D-Link adapter (if only for 10 minutes before it crashed my system). But it is not compatible with the WPA encryption with newer routers and Access Points. You should be able to use WEP with those newer access points and routers. Just look in the preferences of the router or access point. That said the uninstall script seemed to work for me. After I ran the uninstall script the D-Link system panel was gone from my system. And then I deleted the software. What you might try is to redownload the driver from D-Link's support site and use the uninstall script that comes with the download and see if that works. On finding old Airport cards, I ran into the same problem, I waited to late to buy an airport card. Ebay is selling with a huge markup, and I was not willing to pay more then what the price was when it was out. I ended up finding one at a local Mac retailer/repair shop (MacHardware in Kansas City) that was selling new ones they used for repair and replacement for $89. The local (Apple-Owned) Apple Store actually recommended that place. You might search the Yellow Pages for a (non-Apple owned) Mac Repair shop in your town and see if they are selling a non-extreme Airport cards. After installing the airport card, it is working great with any Access points around down (and doesn't crash).

Good Luck.

Jim,

I assume the WEP code is a set of hexadecimal numbers? Make sure you put a "$" at the front of the code when typing it in.

You should not have to put a $ in front of anything for WEP in airport, just choose the right security (128 Hex, 128 ASCII, 40, etc.) and type the password set in the router.
