Here's the story. I have Linksys Wireless Router (WRT54G) at home, set up currently with WPA encryption. I got a free laptop from work (removed from the fleet, P3, XP Pro.), and I put a wireless card in it SMC Networks (SMC2632W V.2). At work, I can hop right on to our wireless system (its open, not connected to our 'work network'). When I take it home, I cannot get on my own system. I change my home encryption to WEP, still cannot get on. I open my home network completely up, and I still cannot get on it...

I have recently downloaded this driver (from work as this is the only place I can get online at), with hopes that when I bring it home, it works:

Any ideas/help? Is this card too old of technology to work with my new Linksys router?

Thanks in advance!

Unless I'm mistaken that's an 802.11B card. Do you have mixed mode (G & B) enabled on your router? Or MAC Authentication?

Actually, when I got home last night, I just reset my router. I was able to connect immediately. When I then signed into my router to config. it, I realized I had it set to G mode originally, so this time I set it to Mixed-Mode, set it to WEP encryption, did the password thing...etc. Now, I am able to connect via desktop and laptop.

Thanks,

Ummmm. Just curious why you chose WEP over WPA?

Because the card that I got for free, is older and doesn't work with WPA. I put on WEP because it's better than nothing...unless I'm mistaken, I think WEP is about as good as I can get with this card: SMC2632W V.2
