Well I have 2MB ISP shared over a wireless router 2 PC'S One laptop computer...
I connect from my PC one room away, and am using bittorent *Azureus* to download files, now they will go fine when I am on the pc and when I leave for a tiny while, but if I switch off my screen and go to sleep whenever I come back in the morning the downloads have STOPPED, and my internet connection has stopped and in the right hand cornor...it has a red x over the wireless icon as to say it has been dsiabled from the net, I have to re-enable the wireless router.

I know nobody disconnects the router and it always has connetions? So what can I do? As I need to be able to leave downloads on over night. All help appriciated. The Router is a Belkin recent model.

Set your computer to not "go to sleep" or "turn off hard disks" while your not using it. It's a windows issue, not your AP. Make sure your computer doesn't run a virus scan in the middle of the night either. This can cause some issues as well. You want to make sure you have all the things that will cause your computer to "hibernate" turned off while you're not using it, to be disabled. When you hit the rack to catch some z's, then just power off your monitor. You should be good to go after that.

well...let's see, changed my IP to static and forawrded the port I use for azuerus to my Router for a start to see if that will help, I will try turning off all the hibernate functions, but my pc is still on and running when I turn on the screen so now I feel it may have been a firewall issue as all the downloads are now faster and green instead of yellow iconned!

You're firewall shouldn't terminate active connections. Even if it's a POS. Let me know if that fixes your issues tho, I'd be interested in knowing.

well....Bad news, I went down to dinner leaving just Azureus running, when I came back the net had cut out. Red X over the wireless net connections and I had to "enable the wireless network" again, so it disables me from the network it is clear, so I need to figure out why...

sorry for the double post...if I go to configure my wireless network "Belkin 802.11g network adapter" and click advanced it lists all these differnt functions or settings...most noticably RTS thresehold and fragmention thresehold...both set about 2347 which would make sense as I have 2MB internet....*Stop me i'f Im talking rubbish* and a thereshold is a cut off point right, so maybe if my downloads go over speed it cuts me off? who knows...

I doubt that. Why not just be patient and sit in front of the computer for a half hour or so. Watch what it's doing. It could be that the AP is just a POS and is just quiting. Who knows at this point.

well when i sit in front of the pc...it doesnt cut out? If I am using the pc...

Don't use it, just watch it. It must not take long. That's why I think it's the PC and not your firewall.

It sounds like it could be power settings on the PC. Have you checked on what those are set at? Those can be set to stop things if there is no activity on the PC.

well, lets see checked all power settings...nothing unusuall there, so I decided to limit my Asureurs to 90KB dl Max and 20KB upload as I fear that maybe it is thing to do with bandwith overusage that is throwing a switch cutting me out the network...

I sat with it for 40 mins or so and nothing cut me out...and been using it for an hour and it hasnt shut off...most weird. I'll see how it goes tonight when I leave it with restricted UP and DL

well woke up this morning....and my download was still going ^_^ oh no joy like a 2.8 Gb file ready for you in the morning.

So it must be due to the network flipping a switch to cut me off when my net useage goes over....

E.G Same with steam and counter strike, that's why it works better when I set my net setting to 756K and not a meg, which is weird considering I have 2MB broadband, but that's the problem solved. Case Closed. Let me know your thoughts

I think I'd check with your ISP to make sure you're getting the BW that your paying for. If you are, I'd replace your equipment to something that won't choke on those speeds. Interesting to say the least.

Does your ISP utilise fair usage policies? If so, it could be that you get disconnected after so long, but can reconnect straight away. This is normally put in place to stop people hogging bandwidth with P2P file sharing.
