I have set up a wireless computer-to-computer (Ad hoc) network but the connection speed stays at 11Mbps and doesn't reach the G speed specification of 54Mbps. Both wireless cards are G compaible and have been set to run at G speeds. The connection has no WES or WPA enabled. What could be holding the connection back from connecting at maximum speed?

You do not mention the OS used on either client, or the Service Pack level.
I suspect the adapters are not being set, (or cannot be set) into Promiscous mode.
