I recently bought a used Toshiba Satellite L35 laptop with Windows Vista Home Basic. I thought it was a way of learning a new OS as well as have a PC when I travel. Unfortunately, I cannot get it to connect to my wireless system. My wireless router (Belkin) is connected to my desktop pc running XP Pro. My sister & daughter have no trouble connecting their laptops (both running XP)to my system when they come to visit. Is there something I'm overlooking due to my lack of knowledge of Vista? The only way I can connect is thru an ethernet cable. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

need to ask basics - is wireless turned on ?

what software is the laptop using to try and connect, windows built in or third party ?

does the laptop see the wireless network when scanning for available networks ?

just read elsewhere that some routers are not vista compatible or some such - try upgrading firmware on router
